With temporary skills shortage visa Australia, a skilled worker can enter Australia and work for an approved sponsor (employer) in a nominated occupation for up to four years.

Subclass 482 visa applicants must have a sponsoring employer that qualifies as a “standard business sponsor,” and that employer must have applied for nomination from the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).

Nominations can be filed by already-known employers (standard business sponsors), and once approved, employees have 6 months to submit a visa application.

If an organization is not already a qualified sponsor, it must apply to join the program before it can submit nominations for its employees. Applications for both Sponsorship and Nomination are permitted to be submitted simultaneously.

To become a business sponsor and nominate an employee, an organization must fulfill a number of requirements. The department of immigration has stringent requirements that an employer must meet in order to qualify as a sponsor for an immigrant worker. These criteria include, but are not limited to, the length of time the company has been in operation, the importance of the positions being filled, the quality of training provided, whether or not the employer has verified that no Australian citizens or permanent residents are suitable for the position, and the salary being offered to the nominating employee.
